ORLANDO, Fla. - Syracuse Volleyball fell to Big 12 foe Kansas State on Thursday afternoon in the first matchup of the UCF Challenge, 1-3, in favor of the Wildcats.
Â
"Consistency will help us eliminate a lot of errors that we made today," said head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam in his post-game press conference. "However, I have to give credit to Kansas State, as they are a well-coached program with a talented roster. Games like this give us an opportunity to show that we can compete with high-caliber teams, even if the outcome wasn't in our favor."
Â
The Orange (2-2,0-0 ACC) fell to the Wildcats (4-0,0-0 Big 12) in four sets, 23-25, 18-25, 25-22, and 21-25. In set four Syracuse almost managed to force the match into five sets by going on a 5-0 run late in the fourth set, but was unable to as points were traded for the final points of the set, ending in favor of K-State.Â
Â
K-State paced the day with a .262 percent hitting clip, the Orange had a hitting percentage of just .224. The Orange trailed in points (72-69) and aces (11-3), tied in blocks (9-9) and Digs (49-49), while leading in the single category of kills (57-52).
Â
Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk led the offensive effort for 'Cuse with a career-high 22 kills, besting her previous record of 21 kills in the win against Wofford just last week.Â
Â

Â
Â
Setter Riley Hoffman had a new career high in the competition by logging 22 assists. Hoffman also matched her previous career highs of one service ace and 14 digs in today's loss.Â
Â
