The Orange (6-1-0) put a five-game winning streak on the line when they host Cornell (1-3-1) on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 3:30 p.m.
The Syracuse-Cornell Series:
Syracuse is unbeaten in 12 matches with the Big Red. The Orange have a 9-0-3 advantage in the series with their Central New York Rivals. The two teams played to a 0-0, two-overtime draw a year ago.
Syracuse Status:
The Orange defeated Binghamton on Sept. 8, 2-1, to extend the squad's winning streak to five games. Graduate student Jenna Tivnan and redshirt sophomore Erin Flurey both scored on headers to give the Orange a 2-0 lead. The host Bearcats narrowed the gap with a goal before Syracuse held on for the triumph.
Syracuse out-shot the Bearcats, 25-5, in the victory.
Cornell Status:
The Big Red have put together a modest, two-game unbeaten streak. Cornell defeated Villanova, 2-1, and then played Albany to a 1-1 draw. Senior Ashley Durik and junior Laken Gallman each have two goals for the Big Red this fall.
Senior Nicole Shulman (2.00 GAA, .563 save%) has started all five of the games in goal for the Big Red.
A Familiar Face On The Other Side, Again:
For the second straight outing, Syracuse goes up against a coaching staff that includes a former Orange standout. Cornell's soccer crew includes assistant coach Jackie Firenze '16. She joined the Big Red staff in 2020 following a four-year tenure on Binghamton's staff. Firenze was a four-year letter winner at Syracuse. She played scholastically at C.W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville.
The Orange saw Taylor Bennett '20, an assistant at Binghamton, on Thursday.
