Syracuse (7-1-0) hosts #3 Duke (5-2-0) in the ACC opener for both squads on Friday, Sept. 16, at the SU Soccer Stadium. The first 100 fans will receive a free white shirt with an Orange Block S logo on the front.
The Syracuse-Duke Series:
Duke has not lost in seven pairings with Syracuse. The Blue Devils own a 6-0-1 advantage in the all-time series with the Orange. The two rivals played to a 2-2 draw the first time they squared off, on Sept. 22, 2013. Duke won last year's match in Durham, 2-0.
Syracuse Status:
The Orange bring a six-game winning streak into Friday's match. Syracuse defeated Cornell, 3-0, in it's last game, and tied the program record for consecutive triumphs. The Orange also forged six-game winning runs in 1996, 1998 and 2000.
Freshman goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch earned her third shutout of the campaign by blanking Cornell. The Orange benefited from a trio of goal scorers -- redshirt sophomore Erin Flurey, freshman Gianna Savella, and graduate student Chelsea Domond.
Duke Status:
Although the Blue Devils have suffered two losses this fall, the programs ranking is well deserved. The defeats came to top-ranked UCLA and second-rated North Carolina.Â
Senior goalkeeper Ruthie Jones earned First Team All-ACC recognition last season. She competed for the United States U-23 Women's Team in the Three-Nations Tournament conducted in Sweden during June. She's started all seven Duke outings in 2022 and has posted a goals-against average of 1.35
Sophomore Michelle Cooper has a squad-leading five goals and three assists. Freshman Kat Rader has contributed three goals and one assist for Duke.
