
Senior Trio Leading Orange

Seniors Madison D'Ambra, Emmie Frederico and Luisa Gathmann are the 2022-23 Syracuse women's rowing captains. The trio will lead the Orange as they compete for a third consecutive NCAA Championship invitation under the direction of fifth-year head coach Luke McGee.

D'Ambra is in her second season as captain for the Orange. In 2022, the senior from Cranston, R.I. rowed in the varsity four in its third place at the ACC Championship and was the two-seat in the second varsity eight that finished 16th at the NCAA Championship. This fall, D'Ambra and the third varsity eight won in the second round of the Princeton Chase. A communications and rhetorical studies major, she earned 2021-22 All-ACC Academic Team recognition and is a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member.

A native of Melbourne, Australia, Frederico won a gold medal with the Australian women's coxed four at the 2022 U23 World Championship in July. At Syracuse, she rowed in the fourth seat in the varsity eight that finished second at the 2022 ACC Championship and in the fourth seat of the 17th place varsity eight at the 2022 NCAA Championship. She was the five-seat for the eighth-place varsity eight at the 2022 Head of the Charles in October. A communications and rhetorical studies major, Frederico earned 2022-23 ACC Honor Roll recognition and was a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Gathmann, who hails from Grenzach-Wyhlen, Germany, was the three-seat in the 2022 varsity eight that finished second at the ACC Championship and 17th overall at the NCAA Championships. Gathmann rowed in the bow of the varsity four that finished 11th at the 2021 NCAA Championship. The human development and family science major is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team selection, a two-time Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete and a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. Gathmann is a 2022-23 Syracuse Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) co-president.
