Graduate student Lauren Bellefontaine is the fourth member of Syracuse's 100 Point Club. The Kemptville, Ontario native had two goals and an assist in Syracuse's 6-3 loss at Lindenwood on Saturday. Bellefontaine assisted on senior Mae Batherson's goal and then scored the second and third goals for the Orange. She has 36 goals and 65 assists for 101 points in 152 games at Syracuse, which ranks fourth on the all-time scoring record list.
Â
"Definitely a disappointing end to our season series against Lindenwood. They are a team that make you work for every inch of ice and we had some players that battled real hard tonight," said head coach Britni Smith. "A big shoutout to Lauren Bellefontaine for earning her 100th career point. She led the way on the scoresheet with eight shots, two goals and one assist. But more than that, she played hard, gritty, selfless hockey for 60 minutes.
Â
"We are back on the road against RIT on Tuesday. They are a team that is playing very good hockey right now. It will be important for us to rebound quickly."
Â
The Orange (8-16-1 overall, 4-4 College Hockey America) tied the game, 1-1, midway through the second period on Batherson's goal and then Lindenwood (3-21, 3-7) scored three times in less than two minutes at the end of the second period to open up a 4-1 lead.
Â
In the third period, Bellefontaine pulled the Orange within two, 4-2, scoring her 100th career point with just more than 16 minutes remaining in the game. Bellefontaine followed up a shot by freshman Rhéa Hicks for the score.
Â
After Lindenwood took three-goal lead, 5-2, with less than four minutes remaining, Bellefontaine tallied her second goal 18 seconds later to make it 5-3 with 3:15 left to play. Hicks and Batherson, who each finished with two points, assisted on the goal. Lindenwood scored an empty net goal with 1:33 left to play for the final score.
Â
Bellefontaine is second on Syracuse's career assists record list with 65, seven behind leader Stephanie Grossi (72).
