
16 PRs Set on Day 1 of Weekend Meets

It was a day filled with personal-best times for the Syracuse track and field teams, as 16 individuals set new personal-best marks across the first days of the John Thomas Invitational and the Dr. Sander Invitational.
In Boston, Assaf Harari led all 'Cuse competitors with a PR in the 3000-meter run. His time of 8:02.82 earned him 24th overall (seventh among collegiate competitors), in a field of more than 170 competitors. Alex Comerford (8:04.51), Paul O'Donnell (8:08.27), Sam Lawler (8:09.56), Silas Derfel (8:11.82), Jack Whetstone (8:13.80), Nathan Lawler (8:13.96), Ethan Weschler (8:15.06), Gabriel Planty (8:25.39), Matthew Dragon (8:46.99) and Patrick Malone (8:57.94) also PRed, while Alex Herbst turned in a mark of 8:25.25, which was a Syracuse best for the transfer, but three seconds off his career time.
For O'Donnell, the 3k was his second PR of the day after his mile time of 4:08.63 set a new personal best. He was the fourth member of the Orange across the line in 54th overall (the event featured 238 runners). Noah Carey was the top 'Cuse finisher in 21st, with a time of 4:01.77. Karl Winter was two spots back in a PR time of 4:02.18. Kevin Robertson (4:07.62) took 48th, followed by freshmen Eamon Burke (4:14.44) and Rube Rojas Betanzos (4:15.30). Kamari Miller rounded out the 'Cuse field in 4:19.11.
The women will take to the track in the 3,000-meter run and mile on Saturday.
In New York, the Orange managed to place a trio of competitors in the men's 60-meter finals, most of any school. Jaheem Hayles (7.88 seconds), finished third overall. Anthony Vazquez (8.07 seconds) and Naseem Smith (8.13 seconds), finished sixth and seventh, respectively. UConn's Terrel Williams (7.75 seconds) was the winner.
Isaiah Lewis reached the finals in the event with a prelim mark of 8.18 seconds, but did not race in the final. David Peters (8.25 seconds) was 15th in a 33-man field, giving the Orange a third of the top-15 finishers, in a meet featuring schools from as far west as UCLA.
Shaleah Colaire reached the finals of the women's 60-meter finals, finishing seventh with a time of 8.65 seconds. Freshman Peyton Rollins was 24th in 9.14 seconds.
In the 60-meter dash, Kahniya James was Syracuse's top finisher, crossing the line in 7.57 seconds. Rollins (7.97 seconds), Morgan Marshall (7.98 seconds) and Kaleia Arrington (7.80 seconds) also competed. Arrington's time tied her career best.
Daijon Richards raced in the men's event, finishing in 7.12 seconds.
Action continues for the 'Cuse sprinters at the Armory on Saturday as well.
