
Orange Set to Host North Carolina and Duke

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University volleyball team will continue its home stand this weekend against conference foes North Carolina and Duke. The Orange will face the Tar Heels on Friday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. and the Blue Devils on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. Both matches will have live stats available and will be streamed on ACCNX.

North Carolina has the lead in the all-time series over Syracuse, 11-3. The teams first met in October 1990, where 'Cuse took the victory in four sets, 3-1. The last time the Orange matched up against the Tar Heels was another of the three program victories, winning in five frames on Oct. 16, 2022. North Carolina sits in the middle of the ACC table with a 3-3 record in conference play this season.

The Orange are looking to take the series lead against the Blue Devils on Sunday, as they are tied 7-7 in all-time matchups. The first meet between the two programs dates back over 30 years to November 1991, where Duke won the match, 3-1. The last matchup played was on Sept. 23, 2022, where the Orange defeated the Blue Devils in four sets, 3-1. The Blue Devils are 11-6 in the 2023 season, going 2-4 in conference play.

'Cuse is still in search for their first ACC win after faltering to Virginia Tech and Wake Forest over the weekend. Junior Cherlin Antonio is currently fourth in the conference for average kills per set with 3.51. Graduate Alyssa Bert and freshman Zharia Harris-Waddy are tied for eighth in the ACC for service aces this season with 20 apiece. The team accrued a season-best seven solo blocks in the matchup against Wake Forest.

Friday's match against North Carolina is school day themed. Children from Syracuse-area elementary schools are invited to attend and can get a free SU flag. Sunday's match against Duke will be Campus Club Night/PJ Day. Clubs across campus are invited to attend and can receive free koozies at the match. Also, be sure to wear some comfy pajamas to cheer on the Orange!

After this weekend, 'Cuse will be back on the road for a trip to Florida. The Orange will play the University of Miami on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m., then will matchup with Florida State on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. Both matches will have live stats and will be available to stream on ACCNX.
