Orange Lose First Game to RPI; Will Host the Engineers Saturday

Sophomores Mik Todd and Heidi Knoll provided the offense for the Orange in a 6-2 loss at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Friday. Knoll tallied her team-leading third goal of the season, while Todd added her second of the campaign. The teams will play again on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Tennity Ice Pavilion in Syracuse (4 pm). Syracuse (2-3 overall) will host a free 'Skate with the Orange' following the game for all fans. Skate rentals are available for the public and free for SU students.

In the first period, RPI (4-0-3) scored a pair of goal to take a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. Todd put the Orange on the board on a breakaway goal to cut the RPI lead to one, 2-1, with 4:10 left in the second. Less than a minute later Knoll gathered the puck off of a Marielle McHale faceoff win and fired a shot from the slot for her third goal of the season with 3:14 remaining in the period. The Engineers responded with two goals in the final minute for a 4-2 advantage after two periods. In the third, RPI added a pair of goals for the final score.

Orange goaltender Allie Kelley had 28 saves. The Orange did not allow a power play goal for the third consecutive game.
