The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced the 20-player watch list for the 2024 Nancy Lieberman Award, now in its 24th year. The Lieberman Award recognizes the top point guard in Division I women's college basketball.
To be considered for the prestigious award, candidates must exhibit the floor leadership, play-making, and ball-handling skills of Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman.
Fair, a 5-foot-5 guard from Rochester, N.Y., barely skipped a beat when she transferred from Buffalo to Syracuse for the 2022-23 season. She averaged 19.9 points per game last season, second in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and was an All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Defensive Team honoree.
Syracuse's sharp-shooter has tallied 2,691 career points and is the second active scoring leader in all of women's college basketball behind last year's Lieberman Award recipient and fellow 2024 watch-list candidate, Caitlin Clark.
Fair scored in double figures in all 33 games for the Orange last season. She was named WBCA All-America honorable mention and was a top-10 finalist for the Lieberman Award in each of the last two seasons.
Three other ACC point guards are represented on the 20-player watch list. Fair is joined by North Carolina's Deja Kelly, Olivia Miles (Notre Dame) and Virginia Tech's Georgia Amoore.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, in each of the three rounds starting Friday, October 20. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2024 Nancy Liberman Award will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February to just five. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Lieberman and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, where a winner will be selected.
The 2024 Nancy Lieberman Award winner will be presented on a to be determined date, along with the other four members of the Women's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award (Shooting Guard), Cheryl Miller Award (Small Forward), Katrina McClain Award (Power Forward) and the Lisa Leslie Award (Center), in addition to the Men's Starting Five.
Previous winners of the Nancy Lieberman Award include Caitlin Clark (Iowa, 2022-23), Paige Bueckers (UConn, 2021), Sabrina Ionescu (Oregon, 2018-20), Skylar Diggins (Notre Dame, 2012-13), Diana Taurasi (UConn, 2003-04) and Sue Bird (UConn, 2000-02).
