
Orange Compete in Qualifying Round at ITA All-American Championships

CARY, N.C. – The Syracuse women's tennis team took part in the qualifying round of the ITA Women's All-American Championships on Monday, October 2. The Orange were represented by Ines Fonte, Miyuka Kimoto, Shiori Ito and Viktoriya Kanapatskaya, all in the doubles event. Kimoto also participated in the singles event.

'Cuse had two pairs represented in the doubles competition. The pair of Ito and Kanapatskaya found success in their first match, winning 8-6 to move to the round of 32 in the main draw. They encountered a tough opponent in their second match of the day, losing 8-2. The pair of Fonte and Kimoto were beaten by their opponent in their first match of the day, 8-6. They went on to play in the consolation bracket where they were edged by their opponent, 8-7. Due to style of the tournament, Ito and Kanapatskaya were knocked out of play after their loss. Kimoto won her only singles match of the day (6-3, 6-4) to move onto the round of 64. She is set to play Eryn Cayetano in the next round on October 3 at 9 a.m.
