Shea Vanderbosch made 10 saves and Anna Rupert scored a second-half goal that pulled Syracuse within one, but host Louisville held on to win, 2-1.
Louisville improved to 3-7-4 overall and 2-3-1 in the ACC. The Orange slipped to 2-10-2 and 0-5-1.
Rupert helped the Orange rally from a 2-0 deficit. Zoe Van de Cloot passed ahead to Rupert, who then crossed over and sent a left-footed drive into the Cardinal goal at 73:41.Â
A TIGHTLY CONTESTED FIRST HALF
The two teams logged a scoreless first half. Louisville outshot the Orange over the first 45 minutes, 8-4, but Vanderbosch steered away three of the attempts to keep the Cards off the board. Three of Syracuse's four shots came from Erin Flurey, the squad's leading scorer.
LOUISVILLE GRABS THE LEAD
The Cardinals ramped up the pressure in the second half and found the net twice in the first 13 minutes of play following the break. Betsy Huckaby earned her first goal of the campaign with a blast that went just past the outstretched arm of Vanderbosch into the upper corner. Fiona Gaiber earned an assist on the goal that came at 55:08. Just two minutes later, at 57:12, Addie Chester fed Emersen Jennings, who also found an unguarded corner of the goal for her second tally of the season.
VANDERBOSCH CLIMBS SCHOOL SAVE LADDER
Vanderbosch posted a double-digit save total for the third time in the last five games. The effort upped her season total to 97, which ranks fifth on Syracuse's single-season save list. Four Orange goalkeepers have exceeded 100 saves in a season: Katie Karlander (138, 2000), Eliza Bennett-Hattan (104, 2007), Courtney Brosnan (102, 2017), and Shannon Myers (101, 2004).
Vanderbosch made a number of stellar stops to keep the Orange within striking distance of the Cards.
