11/1/2023 4:29:00 PM | Football
The Orange return home Friday night to host Boston College on Friday night. Here's five things to know about the matchup.
1. DOME SWEET DOME
The Orange have concluded the nation's third-longest stretch between home games. The 34 days since the team hosted Clemson on Sept. 30 until Friday night's game trails just Coastal Carolina (37 days) and Arkansas (35 days) for the nation's longest stretch without a home game.
'Cuse is 3-1 in the JMA Dome this season.
Tickets are available at Cuse.com/Tickets.
2. RIVALRY WEEK
Boston College is one of Syracuse's most frequent rivals. The Orange and Eagles have met 56 prior times in program history, the fifth-most matchups of any SU opponent.
The teams met nearly annually from 1961-2004 (with the exception of 1968), before the Eagles left for the ACC. They resumed the annual matchup in 2013 when the Orange joined the league. The game is scheduled every year through 2030 as well, as the teams were designated as annual rivals in the latest ACC scheduling model.
3. FREENEY TO BE HONORED
Soon-to-be College Football Hall of Fame inductee Dwight Freeney will be honored at halftime of the game, as part of his National Football Foundation's on-campus salute.
The NFF hosts on-campus salutes at each school of that year's College Football Hall of Fame inductees. A 2001 unanimous First Team All-American, Freeney was a finalist for the Bednarik, Lombardi and Nagurski awards, and he finished ninth in 2001 Heisman Trophy voting. He holds the NCAA record for career pass sacks per game (1.61), and he finished his career as the NCAA leader in single-season sacks with 17.5 in 2001. He had eight forced fumbles in 2001, which currently places him third in the NCAA record books, and he averaged .67 forced fumbles per game in 2001. His 4.5 sacks against Virginia Tech on Oct. 21, 2000, set a conference record.
4. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Syracuse hosts a Friday night home game for the fourth time in the last three years. The Orange have won seven of their last-10 Friday night affairs and hold an 8-4 record under head coach Dino Babers on Fridays.
5. ALL-PURPOSE ALLEN
RB LeQuint Allen has scored eight touchdowns on the season, which ranks sixth in the ACC. He enters Friday's game ranked fifth in the league in all-purpose yards with 744 and also leads the Orange with 25 catches.
