BALTIMORE – Eight freshmen on the Syracuse University men's lacrosse team were named among the top 100 players in this year's class as Inside Lacrosse announced its annual Power 100 Freshmen Rankings Thursday afternoon.
A year after having one of the best recruiting classes in the country, the current sophomores on the roster, Syracuse once again boasts one of the best classes in the country as the eight Orange selections were the most among Division I players.
Trey Deere was the top Syracuse player, ranking 17th in the Power 100. His Orangeville Northmen (OJLL) teammate Donny Scott was 42nd while Jake Spallina was 49th. Rookie netminder Michael Ippoliti was tabbed 58th. Tyler McCarthy ranked 65th, followed closely by John Mullen in 68th. Tucker Kellogg checked in at number 85 as Wyatt Hottle rounded out the Syracuse crew in 89th.
As of January 2023 on InsideLacrosse.com, Syracuse had the number 10 incoming class this fall, with one five-star player, Deere, and seven four-star recruits: Hottle, Mullen, Scott, Ippoliti, MarCarthy, Kellogg, and Jake Spallina.
The Orange finished the 2023 season ranked 18th by Inside Lacrosse, closing with an 8-7 overall record in Gary Gait's second year leading the Syracuse men's team. In addition to Gait, the coaching staff returns associate head coach Pat March and assistant coach Nick Acquaviva. This summer, John Odierna joined the staff as a defensive coordinator.
