5 Things to Know: 'Cuse vs. Wake Forest
11/22/2023 10:14:00 AM | Football
The Syracuse football team will close the 2023 regular season on Saturday in the JMA Wireless Dome when Wake Forest visits the Orange. Here's five things to know about the matchup:
1. Bowl Eligibility on the Line
Syracuse is seeking to reach postseason play for the second time in as many years with a win on Saturday. The Orange have not reached back-to-back bowl games since 2012-13, which came split between the program's final season in the BIG EAST and first in the ACC. A win on Saturday would achieve the mark for the first time as a member of their current conference.
2. Support the Orange One More Time
This is the final home game of the 2023 season and for many, of their Syracuse career.
Tickets are still available at Cuse.com/Tickets for fans to show support for the senior class one more time.
3. Senior Day
Syracuse's Senior class will be honored before the game and again recognized postgame with the Senior Walk, a tradition started recently under Dino Babers. Fans are encouraged to stay in the Dome postgame and make their way to the railings in the lower concourse as players will return from the locker room to make a final lap around the Dome field and meet with fans.
4. Saturday Afternoon's Alright
This game will be the first Saturday home game in 56 days. The Orange have played in the JMA Dome once since Sept. 30 – a Friday night affair against Boston College. The span between Saturday home games is the second-longest in the FBS, trailing New Mexico State (63 days).
5. Allen Going for 1k
Sophomore running back LeQuint Allen needs just 82 yards to reach the 1,000-yard mark, a very doable feat considering he's averaging nearly 122 yards per game over his last three contests.
Allen would give the Orange a 1,000-yard back in three-straight seasons after Sean Tucker did so in both 2021 and 2022. It'd be the fourth time in program history that Syracuse has seen a running back go for 1,000+ yards in three-straight seasons.
