Barron is back!
The junior defensive back announced on Monday that he's returning to the Orange for his fifth and final year of eligibility. Playing with a broken hand this season, Barron still started all-13 games at rover, amassing 90 tackles, which was second on the team, and led the Orange with seven pass breakups.
He has started 34 games in his collegiate career, and appeared in 49, heading into the 2024 campaign.
Â
At 194 career tackles, Barron enters next season ranked 15th in program history for most tackles by a defensive back. Legendary DB Donovin Darius is nearly 200 clear of Barron for the program record, but maintaining his current pace from this season would put him into the top-five, with the likes of Darius (379), Quentin Harris (327), Anthony Smith (293), Markus Paul (285) and Mike Holmes (274) and would be the most at the position in 20 years. While Barron will play five seasons collegiately, his numbers will include just four on defense. He came into the program as a wide receiver, converting to defense for the final three games of the 2020 season, where he has since remained.
A team captain this season, Barron was also the holder on the PAT/Field Goal unit until his injury, making him the nation's only defensive starter to also hold that duty for his team.
Barron is another boost to the 2024 Orange roster, which just signed its highest ranked recruiting class in modern history under new head coach Fran Brown. Fans interested in becoming part of the action can place deposits now for their 2024 season tickets at Cuse.com/Tickets.
