Syracuse women's basketball guard Dyaisha Fair has been added to the Dawn Staley Award Later Season Watch List. The Dawn Staley Award was instituted in 2013 by the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia to honor the greatest guard in women's Division I college basketball each season. Since the award's establishment, there have been nine recipients, all of whom were selected in WNBA drafts.
Â
In each of Syracuse's 26 games, Fair has scored double figures and averages 20.2 points per game this season. The Rochester, N.Y., native recorded her 2,500th career point against Boston College on Feb. 5 and is third on the active career scoring list among Division I players. On top of her point contribution to the Orange offense, she adds 3.5 rebounds and a team-best 4.3 assists per game. Fair is second in the ACC in scoring, third in three-point field goal percentage (.364) and three-pointers per game (2.6). Her 2.5 steals per game is second in the Atlantic Coast Conference.Â
Fair has tallied 14 20-point games this season and has led the Orange in scoring in 19-of-26 games. She's led Syracuse in assists in 17 games and had her best offensive performance of the season when she scored 36 points (11-for-16) in a win against Virginia where she tied the program record for threes in a game (8) and added five rebounds, five assists and zero turnovers. On Jan. 30 Fair was named a Nancy Lieberman Award Top-10 Finalist, one of two ACC players on the list.Â
Â
The winner of the Dawn Staley Award will be announced the weekend of the Final Four. Four finalists will be announced in mid-March. In April 2023, a virtual ceremony will be used to deliver the prize.
