Orange Honored with ACC Postgraduate Scholarships

Three Syracuse student-athletes were honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference as recipients of the 2023 Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Awards.
Chelsea Domond (women's soccer), Luisa Gathmann (women's rowing) and Noah Singelmann (men's soccer) are the Orange's recipients of the Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford scholarships, which are awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $6,000 toward their graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
In addition, Meaghan Tyrrell (women's lacrosse) was named an honorary recipient as a student-athlete who plans to pursue professional careers in their respective sport and/or will not be pursuing additional postgraduate education.
The four 'Cuse honorees are part of a group of 53 student-athletes who were honored across the league on Friday.
"The student-athletes in the ACC are amazing, and we are especially proud to honor this year's class of ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipients that represent our 15 world-class institutions," said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. "The academic and athletic resumes of these 53 student-athletes are incredible, and we applaud their dedication and commitment to excellence. We look forward to continuing to support these tremendous individuals as they approach the future, which is incredibly bright for each of them."
Domond, a graduate student from Stamford, Connecticut, finished the fall season as Syracuse's leader in goals (five), assists (five) and points (15). Her 51 shots and 24 shots-on-goal also represented team-best totals. Domond scored both goals in Syracuse's 2-0 win at Eastern Michigan and produced a goal and two assists when the Orange defeated Miami, 3-1. She started 13 of the 17 contests she played in, only missing one game due to injury. Domond was named to the 2022 All-ACC Academic Team and Syracuse's 2022 Fall Athletic Director's Honor Roll. She earned her undergraduate degree in speech pathology and psychology from Northeastern before transferring to Syracuse. She is working toward a master's degree in speech-language pathology in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Gathmann, who hails from Grenzach-Wyhlen, Germany, will pursue her Master's degree in public relations in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications beginning in July. She was the three-seat in the 2022 varsity eight that finished second at the ACC Championship and 17th overall at the NCAA Championships. Gathmann rowed in the bow of the varsity four that finished 11th at the 2021 NCAA Championship. The human development and family science major is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team selection, a two-time Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete and a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. Gathmann is a 2022-23 Syracuse Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) co-president.
A team captain of the 2022 NCAA National Champions, Singelmann has excelled on the pitch and in the classroom. The Rheinstetten, Germany native has 75 appearances in his four seasons with the Orange, most among active student-athletes. He's tallied six goals and nine assists in his career from the backline, leading the team in points in 2020. Singelmann earned All-ACC Academic Honors in 2021 and 2022, along with College Sport Communicators Academic All-District recognition this year. He's garnered ACC Honor Roll status twice in his career, during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Singelmann graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from the College of Arts & Sciences and is pursuing a master's degree in the same field of study.
Tyrrell was a finalist for the 2022 Tewaaraton Award, which is given to the top college lacrosse player in the nation, and is on the Watch List for this year's award. She has been one of the top scorers in the nation the past two years and is the action NCAA Division I leader in points (333) and assists (122). Tyrrell ranks sixth on Syracuse's all-time leader list for points and goals (211) and is fifth in assists. The two-time IWLCA first-team All-American has also been honored for her work in the classroom. Tyrrell has been selected to the IWLCA Academic Honors Squad and the ACC Academic Honor Roll. She earned her bachelor's degree in public relations from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and is pursuing a Master's in entrepreneurship and emerging enterprises from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.
The ACC has selected postgraduate scholarship recipients annually since 1971. Over that time, the league has provided nearly $4.7 million to more than 1,000 ACC student-athletes.Â
