Syracuse (16-13, 9-9) hosts Georgia Tech (12-17, 4-14) on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7:00 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome as it looks to sweep the season series with the Yellow Jackets. The matchup will air live on RSN across the country and local fans can catch the game on ACC Network Extra.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Orange have lost three straight matchups to Duke, Clemson, and Pittsburgh last week. Georgia Tech enters as the winner of three of its last four contests, most recently defeating Louisville, 83-67, on Saturday night.
SYRACUSE-GEORGIA TECH SERIES
Syracuse holds a 9-7 advantage against Georgia Tech in the series that dates back to the 1984-85 campaign. The Orange have stung the Yellow Jackets in four of the last five meetings including an 80-63 victory in Atlanta earlier this season.
LAST TIME OUT
Syracuse dropped a road matchup against Pittsburgh on Saturday night, falling to the Panthers, 99-82, despite a career-high 24-point outing from sophomore forward Benny Williams. Senior guard Joseph Girard III contributed 19 points, and senior center Jesse Edwards added 17 points along with seven rebounds.
ORANGE LEADERS
Two Orange guards rank in the top 10 for ACC scoring average, with Girard (16.9 ppg.) sitting in sixth and freshman guard Judah Mintz (16 ppg.) slotted at 10th, respectively. Defensively, Mintz leads the ACC in steals with 1.9 per game while Edwards has asserted himself as the league's top shot blocker with 2.7 blocks per contest.
SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
Sophomore guard Miles Kelly (13.4) leads the Yellow Jackets in points per game and has averaged 17.5 points in Georgia Tech's last five pairings. Senior forward Ja'von Franklin is averaging a double-double over the last seven games (15 points, 11 rebounds) and leads his squad with seven rebounds per contest.
MCNAMARA AND WARRICK JERSEY RETIREMENT
Twenty years after playing a major role in Syracuse's first NCAA Basketball Championship, Gerry McNamara '06 and Hakim Warrick '05 will have their Orange jerseys hoisted to the Dome rafters. The jersey retirements will take place on Sunday, March 4 when Syracuse hosts Wake Forest at 5:00 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome.
20TH ANNIVERSARY OF '03 CHAMPIONSHIP
Syracuse University Athletics will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the men's basketball program's 2003 NCAA Championship throughout the 2022-23 season, culminating with a reunion at the March 4 contest with Wake Forest. Members of the 2002-03 national title team have been invited to return to Syracuse for planned activities the weekend of March 3-5, 2023. The Orange are scheduled to host Wake Forest on Saturday, March 4, in the final regular-season contest of the campaign. Those from the 2002-03 squad who can return, will be recognized at the game.
