Syracuse lost to #10 Penn State, 7-0, at Tennity Ice Pavilion on Friday night. The Orange and Nittany Lions will play the second game of the series on Saturday at 3 pm for Otto's Kids Club Day, which includes prizes and a postgame autograph session. All kids in attendance are invited to join the Kids Corner to welcome the Orange onto the ice before each period.
Â
"We have to have a short memory to come back for tomorrow's game," said head coach Britni Smith. "Let's remember the second period and what made us successful and let's try to replicate that for three periods tomorrow. I thought we were great in the second period when we did a really good job getting pucks in behind their defense's feet and making them have to come 200 feet on us and limiting their transition."
Â
After Penn State opened a 2-0 lead in the first period, the Orange (9-19-2, 6-6-1 CHA) held the Nittany Lions to one goal and blocked five shots in the second. Syracuse's offense also generated 10 shots on goal. In the third period, Penn State (21-8-2, 11-1-1 CHA) added four goals.
Â
Orange junior defenseman Hannah Johnson blocked four shots in the game, increasing her season total to 67, which leads the CHA and ties for sixth on the Syracuse single-season record list. She ranks 13th on the Orange career blocked shots record list with 134.
Â
Syracuse will close the regular season at home. The remainder of the home-stand includes a series against Mercyhurst (Feb. 10 and 11) and Senior Day against Stonehill on Feb. 18.
