
Men's Soccer Adds Five To 2023 Roster

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Head coach Ian McIntyre and his coaching staff signed five student-athletes to the spring roster. The five new additions bring almost 200 games of college experience to a Syracuse side that is coming off a NCAA National Championship and a program-record 19 wins.
"We are excited to be able to add five outstanding young men to our roster at this important stage of the year. We felt that it was important to add quality, depth, and experience to our group after the successes of the fall," McIntyre said in regards to the new additions. "I am looking forward to quickly integrating Andre, Stephen, Mateo, Michael, and Nate into our strong, young group."Â Â Â
Andre Cutler-DeJesus - Mamaroneck, NY – Marist College
Andre Cutler-DeJesus joins the Orange after spending two seasons with Marist College, where he appeared in 33 matches in the backline. Cutler-DeJesus is a scoring threat from the center back position, scoring three goals in 15 appearances during the 2022 season. The Mamaroneck, NY native registered 18 appearances, 17 of them starts, as Marist won the 2021 MAAC Championship. Cutler-DeJesus plays club football for Met Oval, a team that he helped qualify for the 2021 MLS NEXT Playoffs.
"Andre is a strong, physical defender who joins us from a very strong Marist program," McIntyre said. "Andre is calm on the ball and will help us address the loss of Christian Curti and Abdi Salim."
Stephen Hasse – Godfrey, IL – Niagara University
Stephen Hasse, a product of the St. Louis FC academy, played four seasons at Niagara University. A team captain for the Purple Eagles his senior year, Hasse has 59 appearances and 53 starts in his career. A technical and creative playmaker from the wingback position, Hasse has 18 assists in his college career, including a career-high eight assists during the 2022 season. The Godfrey, IL native earned 2022 All-MAAC First Team and MAAC All-Tournament Team honors.
"We are delighted that Stephen has decided to join us for his final year of eligibility. I have always been impressed with Stephen when we have competed against his teams. He is a talented, technical player who impacts the game with his exceptional service from wide areas. We will immediately benefit from his experience and leadership in our locker room," Coach added.Â
Mateo Leveque – Nice, France – UConn
A decorated midfielder from UConn, Mateo Leveque joins Syracuse after playing in 31 matches for the BIG EAST program. The 2021 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, Leveque earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors in 2022 and All-BIG EAST Third Team recognition in 2021. A dynamic athlete in the midfield, Leveque scored five goals and provided 11 assists during his time with UConn. A native of Nice, France, Leveque developed in the academy of Ligue 1 club OGC Nice.
"Mateo has already established himself as an outstanding college player and we are very excited to see him playing in our midfield. He is a clever, confident, and composed player who possesses the ability to dictate the tempo of a soccer match and influence the game with his quality in the final third of the pitch," McInytre added.Â
Michael Suski – Avon, CT – Boston College
Michael Suski arrives to Upstate New York with 37 career appearances at Atlantic Coast Conference rival Boston College. A technical forward, Suski has scored 13 goals and nine assists in his career, leading the Eagles in scoring during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. The Avon, CT native was a decorated high school athlete and a two-time recipient of the Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year award.
"During the past few years we have obviously seen Michael's quality up close, and he has always been a really tough matchup for our team. Michael knows what it takes to have success in the ACC, and he will provide us another dynamic attacking threat," McInytre said.
Nate Edwards – Brampton, Ontario – Purdue Fort Wayne Â
Nathan Edwards, a Vaughn Azzuri SC teammate of Trevor Carabin and Christian Curti, will bring pace and an attacking edge to the wingback position. A three-year starter at Purdue Fort Wayne, Edwards featured in 40 matches, starting in 39 of them. The Brampton, Ontario native has two goals and one assist in his college career.
"Nate is a dynamic, athletic, direct player who will fit very well into our system. He is a player with an extremely high ceiling and he has the quality to excel here within the ACC," coach McIntyre added. Â
