LOS ANGELES – Two former Syracuse University men's lacrosse All-Americans were named to the Professional Lacrosse Hall of Fame: Roy Colsey and Ryan Powell.
Colsey and Ryan Powell join fellow Class of 2023 members Ryan Boyle, Greg Cattrano, Jesse Hubbard, and Brian Spallina. The newest Syracuse pair join Casey Powell, Gary Gait, and Pat McCabe, who were part of the inaugural Pro Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2022.
The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) announced the second Hall of Fame class Thursday afternoon. This class will be formally inducted at the PLL's Alumni Weekend on August 5-6 at historic Homewood Field in Baltimore.
Colsey, inducted to the USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2012, was a three-time Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Champion with the Philadelphia Barrage, capturing the league title in 2004, 2006, and 2007. Colsey was named as the championship game MVP for the 2006 as the Barrage dispatched the Denver Outlaws 23-12. During his professional outdoor career, Colsey logged 284 points on 187 goals and 65 assists. His 32 career 2-point goals are fifth all-time between the MLL and the PLL. Colsey served as a Syracuse captain for the 1995 NCAA National Championship team and was a first-team All-American for two title teams (1993, 1995). In 1995, he was the recipient of the Lt. Donald C. MacLaughlin, Jr. Award for the nation's most outstanding midfielder. Colsey was a four-time All-American, including three first-team selections.
A balanced point scorer, Ryan Powell, a 2018 USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee, finished his professional outdoor career as a five-time MLL All-Star and was the 2006 MLL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. He tallied 360 career points, 189 goals and 170 assists. His point and assist totals are both in the top 15 all-time for the MLL/PLL record book. At Syracuse, Ryan Powell is one of 17 players to surpass the 200 career point mark, where he is tied for second all-time with his brother, Casey. In Ryan's 61 career games played, he tallied 287 points with 137 goals and 150 assists. He tied the then-record held by Casey with the final point of the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Another four-time All-American, Ryan Powell was named Enners Award (national player of the year) and Turnbull Award (national attackman of the year) winner in 2000.
Per the PLL: Inductees to the Professional Lacrosse Hall of Fame are nominated by a Hall of Fame committee member and receive a 75 percent majority vote of approval from committee members. Alumni of the Premier Lacrosse League and Major League Lacrosse are eligible for nomination to the Hall of Fame if they played in either, or both leagues for at least five years, and have been retired from professional lacrosse for three years.
