Orange 2V8 Earns ACC Crew of the Week
3/28/2023 3:30:00 PM | Women's Rowing
The Syracuse second varsity eight is the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week after sweeping its races at the Ivy-Big Ten Double Dual on Saturday on Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
Â
Junior Caileigh Grimes coxswained the boat that included stroke Zoe Acosta, Lena Radke, Heather Stafford, Emmie Frederico, Olivia Schaertl, Lauren Coop, Lea Dahn and Kate Ryan in the bow. The Orange won their first race finishing nine seconds ahead of Radcliffe and 13 seconds in front of Rutgers. In the second race, the Orange beat the Hawkeyes by nearly 40 seconds to remain undefeated on the day.
Â
"The second varsity eight had two very strong performances," said head coach Luke McGee. "Their times were comparable to Yale, which also raced at the Ivy-Big Ten Double Dual and whose 2V8 won the NCAA title last spring. The 2V8 handled the adverse weather conditions well and were super gritty."
Â
As a team, the Orange won all 10 races of the day in the first racing of the season for the Orange.
Â
The Orange will race at the Doc Hosea Invitational on Saturday, April 1 on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
