Senior guard Joseph Girard III has been named to the 2022-23 All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball Team. Girard is on track to earn his bachelor's degree in sport management from the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics in May.
To be eligible for the All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball Team, student-athletes must have a 3.0 grade-point-average for the most recent semester and a 3.0 cumulative grade-point-average. Student-athletes must also have competed in at least 50 percent of their school's athletic contests.
It's the third consecutive year Girard has claimed a spot on the All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball Team. He was also named to the All-ACC Academic Honor Roll, earned with a 3.0 cumulative grade-point-average in an academic year, in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
Girard has been selected to the Syracuse Athletic Director's Honor Roll in five straight semesters. Student-athletes qualify with a 3.0 semester grade-point-average.
In his four years at Syracuse, Girard started 123-of-125 games. He accumulated 1,652 points, good for 17th on the school's career scoring list. Girard's 297 career 3-pointers trail only Gerry McNamara (400) and Buddy Boeheim (309) on the Syracuse list, and put him in a 13th-place tie with Duke's Jon Scheyer on the ACC career ledger. Girard also completed the season ranked second in career free-throw percentage (.863) with the Orange, a chart that features McNamara (.888) at the top.
Girard averaged a career-high 16.4 points per game while starting all 32 outings in 2022-23.
