
Three Orange Boats Ranked, Varsity 8 Remains #4

Syracuse University's men's varsity eight crew remains No. 4 in the third IRCA/IRA Coaches Poll of the season this week after winning the Goes Trophy last weekend. The Orange beat No. 12 Cornell and No. 21 Navy to win the Tipp Goes Cup for the third-straight time.
New in this week's poll are rankings for the second and third varsity eight boats as well as a Ten Eyck Team Points poll which the Orange debut at No. 4 behind No. 1 California, No. 2 Washington and No. 3 Yale. Dartmouth rounds out the top five receiving five fewer points than Syracuse.
The varsity eight set a course record at the Cayuga Lake Inlet, Cornell's home course, last Saturday. The Orange won by open water crossing the finish in 5:33.8, 9.5 seconds over Cornell and 10.2 seconds ahead of Navy.
The 2V8+ debuts tied for fourth with Dartmouth. The Orange 2V8+ started the season with a 0.7 second loss to California in Redwood City, Calif. 'Cuse bounced back with a 3.2 second win over Navy and had 7.9 seconds on Cornell in Ithaca this past weekend to improve to 4-1 overall this season.
The 3V8+ is tied for sixth in the IRCA/IRA Poll this week. The 3V8+ is coming off a stellar performance beating both Navy and Cornell to help Syracuse sweep the top-3 races and claim the Stagg Trophy for the third-straight time. It marks the first time in program history the Orange have won the Stagg Trophy in three consecutive races.
Also released this week was the first IRA Ten Eyck Team Points poll, which has the Orange ranked fourth in the nation. The Ten Eyck Memorial Trophy is awarded to the team with the largest points total across the varsity, second varsity and third varsity eights at the IRA Regatta in June.
The Orange have the upcoming weekend off to prepare for its next cup races at the Lake Morey Invite in Fairlee, Vt. Syracuse will face off against Dartmouth for the Packard Cup, Boston University for the Conlan Cup and Georgetown University on April 29-30.
