Former Orange great Dave Wohlabaugh will be enshrined in the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The Hamburg, New York native played for the Orange in the early 90s. In Wohlabaugh's senior season (1994), he was named second- team All-BIG EAST and was invited to both the Hula and East-West Shrine All-Star Bowls. When he was a junior, Wohlabaugh started at guard but transitioned to center as a senior, where he started every game of that season.
He was selected in the fourth round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Wohlabaugh was the starting center when they won Super Bowl XXXI. He also spent four of his nine seasons in the NFL with the Chicago Bears.
The 12-member class of 2023 will be honored on Wednesday, June 14 at Buffalo RiverWorks, before being officially enshrined at the annual Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame dinner this fall. This event will mark the 33rd class to be inducted since its inception in 1991. Other inductees this year include: Buffalo Bills stars Eric Moulds and Bobby Chandler, Cheryl Bailey (former GM of United States Women's Soccer National Team) and Gerry Meehan (former Sabres GM and member of the inaugural Sabres team), among others.
The Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame honors those who have enhanced lives with their performances and commitment to Western New York sports, an effort surpassed only by the positive impressions they have left on our athletes of tomorrow.
