The 2023 IRA National Championship Begins Friday

West Windsor, N.J. – The 2023 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta begins Friday morning on Mercer Lake at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J. The Orange have four boats that qualified for the national championship. Fans can follow along with live stats or watch live through the IRA YouTube Channel. Racing gets underway for the Orange Friday morning with heats. The varsity eight is in the final V8 heat at 8:40 a.m. and the Orange will be paired with #20 Oregon State (Lane 2), #12 Georgetown (Lane 3), #4 Washington (Lane 4), #13 Penn (Lane 6) and #22 Colgate (Lane 7). Syracuse will be in Lane 5. 'Cuse ranked No. 5 in the final IRCA/IRA Coaches Poll of the season last week and earned third at the Eastern Sprints two weeks ago, marking the first medal for the Orange at Sprints in over 40 years.
The 2V8 will be in Lane 5 in their heat against #21 LaSalle (L2), #11 Penn (L3), #3 Harvard (L4), #14 Wisconsin (L6), and (RV) Santa Clara in Lane 7. The Orange second varsity eight (2V8) is coming off a fourth-place finish at Eastern Sprints and ranked sixth in the final IRCA/IRA Coaches Poll last week.
The Orange 3V8, ranked 8th in the final poll of the season, is set for the 10:20 heat in Lane 3. Syracuse will race #15 Wisconsin, #2 Yale, #5 Dartmouth, #11 Navy and #19 University of California - San Diego (UCSD). It will be the second time Syracuse will race Dartmouth and Navy this season having met both squads during the regular season. Syracuse placed sixth at Eastern Sprints, Yale won the 3V8 race at Sprints.
The top two finishers in each heat advances straight to the semifinals while the remaining boats will head to repechages in the afternoon to determine which semifinal they will qualify for.
The V4+ time trials are set to begin at 11:30 a.m. and will determin what boats advance to the semifinals in the afternoon. The V4+ finals are set to take place Saturday morning beginning at 10:10 a.m. with the 6th Level final and the Grand Final set for 11:40 a.m.
