Steven Gilbert has joined Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack's staff as producer/videographer for the Syracuse women's basketball program.
"Coach Steven Gilbert is a welcome addition to our 'Cuse family," Legette-Jack said. "His work ethic, humility, passion, and compassion will help the continued growth of our women's basketball team. His love for Syracuse and our athletics is at an all-time high. I've worked with many young coaches and Coach Gilbert has a pedigree to move up very quickly in our game. Please help me welcome Steven Gilbert, his tenacity of purpose will make you love him."
Gilbert spent the 2022-23 season as an assistant coach for the women's basketball program at Long Island University. Gilbert was the co-defensive coordinator for the Sharks and focused on the team's post development, scouting, and recruiting. He helped LIU win four of its last five regular season games before a first-round Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament loss to eventual champion Sacred Heart ended the Sharks season.
Prior to LIU, Gilbert spent a season at Northwest Florida State College where he helped Bart Walker's team to a 27-3 record. The Raiders ranked No. 1 in the country for 12-straight weeks and defeated Indian River State College, 81-40, in the FCSAA State/NJCAA District Women's Basketball Tournament Championship game.
Gilbert began his coaching career on the AAU circuit coaching for Showtime Hoops, known as 1 Family, where he coached the 12U and 17U teams.
Before entering collegiate coaching, Gilbert was a high school coach for four years leading teams from Florida and New Mexico to the state tournament.
Gilbert's first college coaching gig was at Neosho County Community College where he was the lead assistant responsible for recruiting, scouting, skill development and defense. Following NCCC he served as the head coach position at Colorado Northwestern Community College.
A former basketball student athlete at Webber International, Gilbert earned his bachelor's degree in biological science from Florida State University in 2013 and his master's degree in secondary education from Grand Canyon University in 2017.
Gilbert is a native of Jacksonville, Fla., that scored over 1,700 points and recorded 1,000 rebounds in his high school career at Trinity Christian Academy.
