SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A new era of Syracuse University field hockey is officially on the calendar as first-year head coach Lynn Farquhar has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2023 season.
Six teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last fall return to the schedule this year, including two national semifinalists and the defending champion, North Carolina. Three of those opponents (UNC, Virginia, Wake Forest) will head to Central New York for ACC showdowns.
The 2023 campaign leads off with back-to-back games against Sacred Heart (Aug. 26) and Vermont (Aug. 27), with both tilts in Burlington, Vermont.
'Cuse will host seven games at J.S. Coyne Stadium this fall, including the first home appearance for Farquhar as the head coach of the program on Friday, Sept. 1 against Monmouth.
Two former conference opponents lineup at Coyne on Sunday, Sept. 10 as Syracuse takes on longtime BIG EAST rival UConn. It will be the first clash between the squads in Syracuse since the 2018 campaign.
The Orange meet the Big Red of Cornell twice this fall, once at home on Sept. 6 before making the short trip to Ithaca on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Defending national champion North Carolina makes its way north for an Oct. 13 clash, one of two home ACC games in October. Syracuse rounds out the regular season on Friday, Oct. 27
against Wake Forest at home.
Two exhibition matches adorn the 2023 schedule, leading off on Wednesday, Aug. 16 at Maryland, followed by a home scrimmage against Rutgers on Saturday, Aug. 19.
The full 2023 schedule can be found on Cuse.com, and is subject to change. All Syracuse field hockey home games are free to attend at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Broadcast information will be released at a later time.
