Oronde Gadsden II added another preseason accolade to his resume on Thursday, as the breakout star from last season looks towards his junior campaign.
Gadsden earned Pro Football Focus' First Team All-ACC designation at wide receiver. Linebacker Marlowe Wax (second team) and wide receiver Trebor Pena (third team return man) were also honored by the publication.
A First Team All-ACC selection from a year ago, Gadsden already has collected numerous preseason all conference selections and was named a Preseason All-American by Phil Steele. Gadsden Caught 61 passes for 975 yards and six touchdowns in 2022, leading all tight ends nationally in receiving yardage. His 975 receiving yards was the seventh-most in a season in Syracuse history and his 61 catches were the most by an Orange sophomore in program history, passing Mike Williams (60/2007). It is also Syracuse's single-season record for receptions by a tight end, passing Nick Provo (51/2011). Gadsden set a new program record for single-season yards by a tight end, passing Chris Gedney (587/1992). His six receiving touchdowns finished sixth in the ACC.
Wax, who was voted as a team captain for 2023, was an honorable mention All-ACC selection last season. He started all-13 games, making him the only member of the team's linebacking corps to appear in every game on defense. He finished the year with a team-best 91 tackles and 10.5 tackles for loss on the season. His 91 tackles ranked 11th in the ACC last season. He also had 4.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a blocked kick.
Pena is coming off his most productive season yet in Orange. He appeared in 11 games with three starts, where he caught 22 passes for 203 yards, returned 12 kickoffs for 326 yards (27.2 avg.) and returned 21 punts for 182 yards (8.7 avg.). The return game is where he did the most damage. He led the ACC in average kickoff return average, a mark that tied for sixth nationally (27.2) and was third in the ACC in punt return average (8.7), which was good for 19th in the FBS. Pena was also second in the ACC and 23rd nationally in combined kick returns (508).
Wax, Gadsden and Garrett Shrader will be on ACC Network Tuesday as part of ACC Kickoff, live from Charlotte.
Season tickets, partial plans and individual game tickets are now on sale at Cuse.com/Tickets. Season tickets, which start at just $99, remain the best value for Orange fans. Syracuse's allotment of tickets for the 100th anniversary of the first football game played at Yankee Stadium are also on sale now.
