Camp Notebook: Week 2

Week 2 of training camp is in the books, as the Orange near the midway point of their preseason training camp.
The team was on the field from Tuesday through Saturday this week, before taking their mandatory off day on Sunday. The week was headlined by the first of two preseason scrimmages on Saturday.
Tuesday, Aug. 8
The Orange kicked off the second week of practice with Coach Babers holding his weekly press conference.
It was also the first day in full pads, which is always a camp highlight:
Wednesday, Aug. 9
The Orange's offensive players were available to the media on Wedneday. Catch up with Garrett Shrader, Oronde Gadsden II and Isaiah Jones from earlier this week:
Thursday, Aug. 10
It was another full-padded practice for the Orange. Through two weeks, the team couldn't have asked for much better weather. Thursday was the only day of camp thus far that the team has been forced inside for the majority of practice.
Friday, Aug. 11
Defensive players wrapped up the media availabilities this week on Friday.
Catch up with DBs Justin Barron and Isaiah Johnson and LB Marolwe Wax:
Saturday, Aug. 12
The Orange ran 145 plays in under two hours on Saturday. The scrimmages are situational drives from predetermined yard lines in an offense vs. defense format, but don't operate like a true game. Drives either result in a touchdown or a stop and reset and the ones were 'thud' only, meaning no tackling.
Head Coach Dino Babers praised the defensive unit for their physicality in the session, which resulted in interceptions from Justin Barron, Jeremiah Wilson and Cornell Perry.
The offensive highlight of the afternoon was this incredible catch from Kendall Long on a pass from QB Braden Davis. It was one of two touchdown receptions on the afternoon for Long.
The Orange will have their second of two preseason scrimmages next Saturday and follow a similar format.
Other news and notes:
- ACC Network comes to campus this week as part of their ACC Road Show. The show will be taped live during practice on Tuesday and air Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the network.
- Running back LeQuint Allen rejoined the team on Saturday. He began his acclimation period and did not participate in the scrimmage.
- The Orange also added one new defensive back to the roster this week. Myles Farmer, a graduate transfer from Nebraska, who was the Cornhuskers' second-leading tackler last season, had his first practice on Saturday as well.
- 'Cuse had four new watch list additions last week. QB Garrett Shrader made the Davey O'Brien list, running back LeQuint Allen was added to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, linebacker Marlowe Wax made the Butkus Award list and tight end Oronde Gadsden II was named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List. Syracuse now has players on eight different major award watch lists heading into the season.
The Orange open the 2023 season on Sept. 2 vs. Colgate. Season tickets, partial plans and individual game tickets are now on sale at Cuse.com/Tickets. Season tickets, which start at just $99, remain the best value for Orange fans. Fans can also purchase group tickets, hospitality packages and tailgate packages. With two of the last three games in the JMA Dome having been sold out, fans are encouraged to secure their seats today to be part of the action.
