In addition to his stellar play on the field that has him as a preseason candidate for the Maxwell Award, the addition of his off field attributes have landed quarterback Garrett Shrader on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.
The Wuerffel Trophy is college football's premier award for community service. Named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, the award recognized student-athletes who make positive impacts on society.
Shrader, who enters the season in the top-10 of a bevvy Orange career statistical categories, has participated in numerous community initiatives around Central New York in his time with the Orange. Shrader is one of the team leaders that helped initiate team's partnership with Team IMPACT. He has also spent time at Clear Path for Veterans, a support organization for military families, interacting children of military families, and a number of other initiatives.
Already voted a team captain for the second year in a row, Shrader enters the 2023 season as one-of-five active FBS quarterbacks that have amassed 5,000+ passing and 1,500+ rushing yards in their career. Despite less than two seasons of starting at SU, he already is in the top-10 in program history in completions (10th), passing yards (ninth), passing efficiency (fourth) completion percentage (fifth), passing yards per game (fifth) and attempt (fourth) and touchdown passes (eighth). He also is second in rushing touchdowns by a quarterback at Syracuse and is tied for 13th in ACC history in the category.
The Orange open the 2023 season on Sept. 2 vs. Colgate. Season tickets, partial plans and individual game tickets are now on sale at Cuse.com/Tickets. Season tickets, which start at just $99, remain the best value for Orange fans. Fans can also purchase group tickets, hospitality packages and tailgate packages. With two of the last three games in the JMA Dome having been sold out, fans are encouraged to secure their seats today to be part of the action.
