SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse softball head coach Shannon Doepking has hired Will Loredo as an assistant coach. Loredo brings over two decades of coaching experience, most recently serving as the interim head coach for Amherst College.
"We are very excited to add Will to our 'Cuse family," Doepking said. "Not only is he great from a developmental standpoint, but he is going to add a lot of value to our culture as a person."
In his lone season as interim head coach of the Amherst softball program, Loredo guided the Mammoths to a 24-13 record. Amherst also finished second in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) regular season standings with a 12-6 record in league play.
Loredo's team had success both on the field and in the classroom as three student-athletes earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region recognition while five players were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
"Words cannot express the excitement I have for the opportunity to work with the phenomenal student-athletes at Syracuse University," Loredo said. "I deeply appreciate the trust and confidence that head coach Shannon Doepking and the entire athletic department are showing by allowing me to join the Syracuse community. I am extremely humbled to join her staff and look forward to helping continue to build this incredible program."
Prior to holding the interim title at Amherst, Loredo served as an assistant coach in 2022. Amherst won its first NESCAC championship, posting a 26-9 record. The team also reached as high as No. 22 in the NFCA DIII rankings.
Loredo also had stops at the College of Southern Nevada where he served as the team's assistant coach/catching coordinator during the 2021 season and two seasons at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College. During those two years, Loredo served as an assistant/associate offensive coordinator for a team that was ranked fifth in the country in 2019. Loredo was also part of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Coaching Staff of the Year that year.
Loredo began his coaching career as a varsity baseball coach/associate hitting coordinator with Colton High School before transitioning to the softball field where he held various roles in youth and high school softball for over a decade.
