Shrader's Record Day Powers Orange to 3-0 Start

The Mob forced six fumbles (recovering four) and added an interception in a gritty road performance that took down the defending Big Ten West Champions on the road.
It was a stout defensive performance on the road led by defensive captain Marlowe Wax, who had an interception, two forced fumbles, a sack and eight tackles. But it was the man leading the other side of the ball that perhaps had the gustiest performance on the day.
Quarterback Garrett Shrader carried the ball for 195 yards on the ground and a quarterback school-record four rushing touchdowns. The 195 yards on the ground are the second-most by a quarterback in Syracuse history, and ninth-most by a QB in ACC history.
A mere hours after his top receiving target (Oronde Gadsden II) announced he was done for the season after suffering a Lisfranc injury in week two, and without a potential five starters on offense (Gadsden, Trebor Pena, David Wohlabaugh, Joe More, Kalan Ellis), Shrader's individual effort led 'Cuse to a double-digit victory on the road against the Boilermakers.
"This was a very important game in our run and we're going to do the things we need to do to win," said head coach Dino Babers. "We asked him to use his legs and there will be games where we ask him to use his legs a lot, and games we won't."
In the process of Saturday's game, he moved into the top-10 in ACC history for rushing TDs by a quarterback with now 28 in an Orange uniform. Including his time at Mississippi State, he now has 34 rushing scores, which is second nationally among active players to Michigan running back Blake Corum (37).
"The quarterback run game was there just by how they played us on defense, a lot of man-to-man, and I knew the running lanes would be there," Shrader said.
Shrader also threw for 184 yards through the air on 14-of-28 passing to tally 379 yards of total offense on the afternoon.
Shrader and the Orange return to the JMA Dome for the next two contests, beginning on Saturday vs. Army. Tickets for next weekend's game are available on Cuse.com/Tickets.Partial plans and individual game tickets are now on sale. Fans can also purchase group tickets, hospitality packages and tailgate packages.
