Syracuse University officially broke ground on the new football operations center at the John A. Lally Athletic Complex on Friday.
The project, which construction began on in July, is designed to elevate the student-athlete experience and help them meet their performance goals. The space will feature a new, expanded cafeteria and nutrition space, a new locker room, new position meeting rooms, coaches offices and other amenities.
Chancellor Kent Syverud, Athletics Director John Wildhack, head football coach Dino Babers, John and Laura Lally, members of the Legends Society and more were on hand for the occasion.
"I'm really grateful to trustee John Lally and his wife Laura for their generosity and the challenge that really made this building move from an aspiration to an achievement," Syverud said in his opening remarks. "Their gift really continues an incredible football legacy here for generations to come."
"Today another monumental step forward in shaping the future of Syracuse University Athletics and in particular, our football program," Wildhack said. "Today represents a commitment to compete at a national level. It represents a commitment to develop our young men, beyond just the gridiron. The vision of this facility is to provide every team member – and every student-athlete – the ability to maximize their potential academically and athletically."
The Lally Athletics Complex serves over 600 student-athletes across 20 varsity teams. In addition to the new football operations center, the One Team Lounge will provide student-athletes of all programs a new athlete lounge, dining and nutrition center and new sports medicine center.
This phase of the construction is a continuation of a facilities transformation project at Syracuse. The new entranceway to the Lally Athletic Complex was officially opened this past winter. It currently houses the Orange football program temporarily while the new operations center is constructed.
It's the latest facilities commitment by Syracuse University. The JMA Wireless Dome has undergone a complete transformation in recent years, which include a new fixed roof, upgraded lighting and sound, air conditioning and a new center-hung video board, as part of a 2020 renovation. This year, the Kuhn Gameday Lounge presented by Hidden Level opened as a new field-level hospitality space. Next season, chairback seating will be installed throughout the venue and a state-of-the-art 5G wireless network is soon to be completed that will provide unprecedented connectivity throughout the building.
