SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 7 Syracuse scored twice during an 11-minute span to earn a 3-2 victory against Pittsburgh Friday night at the SU Soccer Stadium. Seniors Jeorgio Kocevski and Gavin Wigg each registered a goal and assist in the win as the Orange improved to 1-0-2 in ACC play. 'Cuse outshot the Panthers, 15-5, and held a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Pittsburgh got on the board early as Abdoulaye Toure put one past Syracuse goalkeeper Jason Smith at 4:53 into the match.
The Orange responded less than seven minutes later off a set piece. Junior Mateo Leveque sent the ball into the box where Wigg headed it over to senior Lorenzo Boselli, who used his head for his fifth score of the campaign.
With the Orange trailing 2-1 late in the first half, Wigg again added his name to the score sheet as 'Cuse had another successful set piece. Graduate Josh Belluz headed the ball over to Wigg, who tapped it into the open right side of the next to level the match at two.
At the 55:42 mark of the match, Kocevski put home the game winner off the pass from sophomore Nicholas Kaloukian.
Syracuse played up a man for the final 15 minutes of the match and up a pair in the final four minutes.
