
Three Selected as Orange Rowing Captains

Three seniors will lead the Syracuse rowing program in 2023-24 as the Orange seek to earn a fourth-consecutive NCAA Championship invitation. Aphrodite Gioulekas, Izabela Krakic and Elizabeth Vogt earned the leadership roles for sixth-year head coach Luke McGee's team that is seeking to extend the program streak of consecutive NCAA Championship invitations to four.

Gioulekas, a native of Melbourne, Australia, rowed in the bow seat for the 2023 second varsity eight that finished second at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship and 17th at the NCAA Championship and rowed seven seat in the first Syracuse 8 to row at the Henley Royal Regatta during the summer. In her third season with the program, the fashion design major is a two-time Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete and All-ACC Academic Team selection.

Krakic rowed six-seat for the 2023 Orange varsity eight that won the ACC title for the first time in program history and finished eighth at the NCAA Championship. She was the stroke for the Orange 4- at the 2023 Henley Royal Regatta. In her first year at Syracuse, Krakic earned 2023 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete and All-ACC Academic Team honors.

A native of Los Alamitos, Calif., Vogt was the stroke for the varsity four that finished 13th at the 2023 NCAA Championship and was the stroke for the second varsity four that won the 2023 Eastern Sprints and finished third at the ACC Championship. She A sport management major, Vogt earned 2023 ACC All-Academic Team honors.

The 2023-24 Orange will row at the Head of the Charles (Oct. 22) and the Cornell Autumn Classic (Nov. 4) in the Fall season.
