Virginia Tech (5-3-3, 2-1-0) scored three first-half goals to build a safe advantage and went on to defeat Syracuse (2-8-1, 0-3-0), 4-0, on Sunday at the SU Soccer Stadium. Emma Pelkowski contributed two goals and an assist for the Hokies.
HOKIES GET BUSY EARLY
Virginia Tech struck early in the contest, Pelkowski tallied her first goal of the season just 5:13 into the contest. Her strike reached the upper corner, just out of the reach of Syracuse goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch. Virginia Tech extended its lead 20 minutes later when Pelkowski's feed found an open Natalie Mitchell, who converted for her sixth marker of the fall.
The Hokies added a third goal in the first half at 44:46. Anna Weir earned her second of the season to provide Virginia Tech a 3-0 cushion at the intermission.
MORE PELKOWSKI
Fresh off the break, Virginia Tech went on the attack again and Pelkowski delivered her second goal of the afternoon a little more than two minutes into the second half.
ORANGE PLAY EVEN FOR REMAINDER
Syracuse tightened defensively and battled the Hokies evenly the rest of the way. Vanderbosch, a sophomore, had another busy afternoon in goal and finished with eight saves. Redshirt sophomore Erin Flurey managed a squad-best four shots for Syracuse.
NOTABLE NOTES:
