How it Happened
- Late in the first quarter, Boston College took a 1-0 lead with 35 seconds showing on the clock. Garber tipped a penalty corner drive from Simone Hefting just over Borzymowski's pads.
- Midway through the second period, the Orange tied the game on a corner chance of their own. After an initial tricky pass, Charlotte de Vries swept a shot towards the goal, initially stopped by Kelly. Bell was active in front, pushing a quick pass over to Schreinemacher along the baseline after the insert for the latter's first career college goal.
- Just under five minutes into the fourth quarter, Syracuse put its speed on display. After a poke check in transition from Borzymowski, the Orange got up and out, setting up Bell's goal for a 2-1 lead.
- Three minutes later, Carlin flatsticked a deflection to the far post, tying the game for a second time and forcing overtime for a second-straight ACC game for both teams.
- Boston College controlled possession in the first overtime frame, but Syracuse took the only two shots of the stanza. Both efforts were just off the mark, however.
- In the 72nd minute, de Vries wound up for a shot, only to have the effort impeded by a BC player, triggering a penalty stroke. After a review, the call was upheld, setting up van den Nieuwenhof's first career overtime game-winning goal.
- Slow out of the gate, Syracuse was out-shot 5-2 in the first 15 minutes of the game. The two Borzymowski saves in the frame kept it to a 1-0 BC lead.
- The second and third quarters were all Orange on offense as Syracuse ripped 14 shots in those 30 minutes, including an 8-1 advantage in the second quarter and 6-0 in the third. All-told, Syracuse out-shot Boston College 21-8, including 11-2 in the final 42 minutes of the contest.
- Van den Nieuwenhof was credited with her second career game-winning goal against Boston College.
- The Orange have won their last four games against Boston College, improving to 17-9 all-time against the Eagles in conference play.
- Syracuse now has back-to-back road wins in the rain over top 20 opponents after knocking off No. 16 Penn State last Sunday in Happy Valley.
- No. 10 Syracuse remains in Greater Boston for a Sunday showdown at No. 14 Harvard (5-3).
- Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Harvard's Berylson Family Field Hockey Field, live on ESPN+.
- The Crimson take on Ivy League foe Yale Friday evening in Connecticut.
