The honors keep rolling in for the Syracuse women's basketball team, the latest in the name of Dyaisha Fair as one of five U.S. Basketball Writers Assocation (USBWA) Players of the Week. On Monday, Fair was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Week for the first time this season.Â
Fair averaged 26.5 points per game over a 2-0 week for the 16-2 Orange, who rank #22 in the nation this week. Her 22 points against Pittsburgh on Sunday secured her 10th game with 20 or more points this season and she has scored in double figures in 13-straight contests. She led the team in scoring with 31 points in an upset over #15 Florida State while setting a program record for three-pointers in a game (9). She had 22 points and six assists in Syracuse's road win at Pittsburgh, which extended SU's win streak to five.Â
Fair became the fastest player in program history to reach 1,000 points at Syracuse in the win over FSU, doing so in just 50 games - 10 games faster than the previous record. Over the course of the 2-0 week, Fair moved from 16th to tied for 10th on the all-time Division I women's basketball scoring list with 3,060 points.Â
The 5-foot-5 guard from Rochester, NY, is putting together one of the best seasons in SU history. She's leading the 16-2 Orange to their best start in over a decade and has 'Cuse 6-1 for the first time in ACC history. The Orange currently sit atop the ACC Standings, tied with North Carolina, and entered the Associated Press (AP) Top-25 Poll for the first time this season this week at No. 22.
This is the first USBWA Player of the Week honor for the Orange this season. Syracuse was named USBWA Women's Team of the Week on January 3 following SU's upset over #13 Notre Dame on Dec. 31, 2023.
