2024 'Cuse Football Schedule Announced
1/24/2024 4:59:00 PM | Football
The first year of the Fran Brown era of Syracuse football will feature seven games in the JMA Wireless Dome, two first-time opponents and Miami's return to the Dome for the first time in 22 years.
'Cuse will host Miami, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, UConn, Ohio and Holy Cross next season at a time when the JMA Wireless Dome transformation project will add new seating throughout the venue.
The Orange will also make a pair of trips to the Pacific Time Zone, facing UNLV and Cal. It's been over a decade since West Coast alumni and fans had the opportunity to watch the team in the region. The two trips west are the first time that Syracuse has had multiple games in the Pacific Time Zone since 1915. Road trips to NC State, Pittsburgh and Boston College are also on this season's slate.
Eight of the 11 FBS teams on this year's schedule reached postseason play last year.
'Cuse will play four-straight contests at home to start the season, before hitting the road for five of its next six games, and concluding the year with back-to-back weekends in the Loud House.
Saturday, Aug. 31 – Ohio
The season will kick off with the fourth all-time meeting with Ohio. The Orange boast a 3-0 record vs. the Bobcats previously. This game is a return trip from the 2021 campaign, where Syracuse won the season-opener at Ohio by a score of 29-9. Previously, the schools played in 1916 and 1921, both SU victories.
Saturday, Sept. 7 – Georgia Tech
ACC play will open vs. Georgia Tech in the JMA Dome on Sept. 7. 'Cuse won the lone other time these two teams met in the Dome, a 37-20 victory in 2020. Georgia Tech has three victories in the four-game series, twice in Atlanta and once at Giants Stadium (2001 Kickoff Classic).
Saturday, Sept. 14 – BYE
Teams have multiple open weekends this season because of how the calendar falls. The first of the season will take place week three for the Orange.
Friday, Sept. 20 – Stanford
Syracuse will host its first new ACC opponent for a Friday night contest when Stanford visits the Dome. The team will face two of the three new teams in the conference this season, as Stanford, Cal and SMU were added to the league starting in 2024.
The game is the first meeting in program history vs. the Cardinal and comes on the 44th anniversary of the first game played in the Dome – a significant number in Syracuse football history.
Saturday, Sept. 28 – Holy Cross
'Cuse hosts Holy Cross for the 30th meeting between the two programs – but just second in the last 50 years – on Saturday, Sept. 28. The teams last met in 2019, a 41-3 victory for Syracuse.
Saturday, Oct. 5 – at UNLV
Syracuse and UNLV will face off for the first time in program history on Oct. 5 in Allegiant Stadium, the site of this year's Super Bowl. It's the first of two NFL venues on this year's schedule. The first road trip of the season, it'll come against a team that posted a 9-3 regular season record and played in the Mountain West Championship game a year ago.
Saturday, Oct. 12 – at NC State
After a one-year hiatus from playing the Wolfpack, the Orange will return to Raleigh in 2024. The two teams, formerly of the ACC Atlantic Division, met annually from 2013-22 when 'Cuse joined the ACC. Syracuse won the most recent matchup between the two programs, defeating a then No. 15 ranked NC State team, 24-9, in 2022.
Saturday, Oct. 19 – BYE
The Orange's second bye week will come after their first two road games of the season, as the team will finish the year with six-straight weeks of games.
Thursday, Oct. 24 – at Pittsburgh
An annual series since 1955, Syracuse and Pitt will meet for the 80th time on Thursday, Oct. 24. The Orange won the most recent meeting, which was played at Yankee Stadium last season, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the first football game played in the venue.
Pitt is Syracuse's most frequently played opponent in program history. The series is set to be played annually well into the future as well, with the Panthers being designated as one of 'Cuse's annual rivals in the new ACC scheduling model.
Saturday, Nov. 2 – Virginia Tech
After four weeks without a game in the JMA Dome, 'Cuse will return to the Loud House to face Virginia Tech on Saturday, Nov. 2. It's the Hokies' first trip to the Dome since 2016, when the Orange secured the school's first win over a ranked squad since joining the ACC three years prior.
Saturday, Nov. 9 – at Boston College
Another rivalry game is set for Saturday, Nov. 9 in Chestnut Hill. The Orange and Eagles will meet for the 58th time, with Syracuse boasting a 34-23 advantage in the all-time series. SU will be seeking a fourth-straight victory on the road vs. BC, having won there in 2016, 2018 and 2022.
Saturday, Nov. 16 – at Cal
The final road game of the regular season will take place against another new member of the conference. The Orange will make their second trip west of the season and play at Cal for the first time since 1968. The two teams have split the two prior meetings, with Syracuse winning at home in 1967, before the Golden Bears won the return trip a year later.
Saturday, Nov. 23 – UConn
The Huskies will conclude non-conference play for the Orange on Nov. 23. It's the latest date that Syracuse has played a nonconference opponent since 2010 (although 'Cuse has played out-of-conference opponents for their 11th game in both 2012 and 2018). Syracuse has won four-straight matchups against UConn and is 4-2 all-time vs. the Huskies in the Dome.
Saturday, Nov. 30 – Miami
Miami's first trip to the JMA Dome since 2002 will conclude the 2024 regular season. The Hurricanes and Orange have only met once previously as ACC members, taking place in Coral Gables in 2017. The regular season concluding with Miami will add an old BIG EAST flare to the slate. The two teams met for the final regular season contest eight times between 1990 and 2002, including annually from 1995-99.
