Tennis Continues Homestand This Weekend

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University Women's Tennis Team is coming off a perfect opening weekend and set to complete their four-match homestand against two in-state opponents. The Orange (2-0) face St. Bonaventure (0-1) on Saturday, Jan 27 at 11 a.m. and central New York rival Cornell (1-0) on Sunday, Jan 28 at 11 a.m.

'Cuse faces St. Bonaventure for its second all-time meeting this weekend. The last time the two programs squared off was in February of 2000, where the Orange swept the Bonnies, 7-0. This Sunday will mark the 27th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Cornell. In their most recent meeting last January, the Orange came out on top, 6-1. Â

St. Bonaventure fell to Navy in its spring opener this past Saturday. The pairing of Cirkeline Lundberg and Kelly Barnes gave the Bonnies their sole victory of the day in a 6-1 loss. Cornell began their spring season against Fordham in their first-ever meeting, topping the Rams 6-1. Duo Emma Baker and Laren Stein combined for a 6-3 win in the No. 1 doubles match. Stein secured the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the number one singles spot.

Syracuse was most recently in action against Fordham, sweeping the Rams 7-0 after beginning the season with a 7-0 victory over Army. Miyuka Kimoto won both matches on the weekend in the number one spot for singles, defeating Army's Cooper Jackson 6-3, 6-2 and Fordham's Raffaela Alhach 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Shiori Ito won on Saturday and Sunday in the number one doubles spot. Ito also secured the first singles point against Army and Fordham in the number six singles spot.

Following Sunday's match, 'Cuse will hit the road for the first time this season. The Orange travel to New York, N.Y. on February 4 to face Columbia for the 8th all-time meeting and first since February of 2020.
