Syracuse played host Pitt even for 75 minutes but the Panthers (9-3-2, 3-2-1) scored three times the rest of the way to emerge with a 3-0 win at the Ambrose Urbanic Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Orange fell to 6-8-1 overall and 0-7-0 in ACC play.
ACTIVE VANDERBOSCHÂ KEEPS 'CUSE CLOSE
Junior netminder Shea Vanderbosch helped keep the Orange in the contest and finished with 14 saves. It marked the second consecutive outing in which she had double-digit stops. The 14 saves put Vanderbosch in a fifth-place tie with Lysianne Proulx and Courtney Brosnan for the most game stops in Syracuse history.
Vanderbosch improved her career save total to 279, just two behind Proulx (2017-21).
CROYLEÂ NARROWLY MISSES SCORING TRY
Freshman defender Anna Croyle had Syracuse's best scoring threat on the afternoon while the game was still knotted, 0-0. Operating off a corner kick, Croyle managed to head the ball on net but the Panthers' Ellie Breech redirected the attempt at the 52:35 mark of the contest.
PITT TALLIES ON BACK-TO-BACK SET PIECES
The Panthers broke open the deadlocked match at 75:04. A Pitt corner kick found its way to Deborah Abiodun, who directed a shot into the top left of the net. Sarah Schupansky was awarded an assist on the play.
Just under six minutes later, Abiodun found the mark again. The Panthers' corner kick hit the goal post and bounced directly to Abiodun, who took advantage of the opportunity to improve the advantage to 2-0.
PANTHERS SEAL THE VICTORY
Samiah Phiri and Schupansky earned assists and Ellie Coffield found the net with 4:59 remaining to complete the game's scoring. Schupansky's assist allowed her to break her own school standard for single season assists. After accumulating 14 in 2023, Schupansky has 15 this fall.
