In a back-and-forth contest, Syracuse (6-8-2, 0-7-1) earned a point in conference play from a 1-1 draw against NC State (3-9-3, 0-5-2) at the SU Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.
FLUREYÂ PUTS THE ORANGE ON TOP EARLY
In just the fourth minute, Syracuse put the pressure on the Wolfpack, and a deflected shot by Maya McDermott rewarded the Orange a penalty via a handball. In her second spot kick attempt of the year, Erin Flurey smashed the ball in the top left corner to get the Orange out in front 1-0.
WOLFPACKÂ RESPOND AFTER THE INTERMISSION
NC State broke through in the 56th minute. A corner delivery by Mana Nakata rolled into the box and to the feet of Taylor Chism, who buried the ball into the back of the net, knotting the game at 1-1.Â
SYRACUSE THREATENS LATE
The Orange had two solid scoring chances in the final 10 minutes of the contest. Ashley Rauch redirected a pass with a spectacular header that just missed wide of the net at the 80:46 mark of the match. Flurey added to that less than three minutes later when her left-footed drive toward the corner of the goal slid wide left.
BRAUN'S WALL
In her third start of the season, and first in ACC play, goalkeeper Blythe Braun made a season-high nine saves to help keep the contest even. Braun was tested multiple times and had six of her nine stops come in the second half.
NOTABLE NOTES
Syracuse plays its final home match of the 2024 season when it hosts Miami on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7:00 p.m. in the SU Soccer Stadium.
