
Orange Top Nearly 20 Ranked Squads Across Pre-Nats Races

The Syracuse cross country teams each ran above their pre-meet ranking at Saturday's Wisconsin Pre-Nationals event, against a loaded field that featured 19 ranked teams in each race.
The No. 23 Orange men topped 11 ranked squads, including six ranked ahead of them, to finish eighth overall with 258 points. No. 3 Arkansas (89 points) win the meet, followed by No. 4 Iowa State (128 points), No. 9 Stanford (142 points), No. 8 New Mexico (166 points), No. 6 Northern Arizona (178 points), No. 10 Wisconsin (199 points), No. 5 Notre Dame (200 points) and then the Orange.
Sam Lawler was the men's top finisher in a time of 23:31.1 over the 8k course. He finished 34th overall, making up 12 spots over the second half of the 8k race. Assaf Harari (23:26.6) was 42nd overall and continued the theme of making up ground in the final 4k – he improved 15 spots from his position at 4,000 meters.
Connor Ackley finished 55th (23:33.6), followed five spot behind by Alex Comerford (23:36.2). Benne Anderson (23:40.9) rounded out the Orange scoring in 67th place. Ethan Wechsler (24:17.2) and Ruben Rojas Betanzos (24:57.3) also competed.
'Cuse bested No. 13 Washington, No. 14 Michigan, No. 15 Eastern Kentucky, No. 16 Colorado, No. 18 Butler, No. 20 Harvard, No. 24 Cal Baptist, No. 27 Florida State, No. 28 Air Force, No. 29 Texas and No. 30 Utah State among the ranked teams competing.
The No. 23 'Cuse women toppled six ranked squads en route to its 15th-place finish. Savannah Roark placed 25th overall to lead the Orange (19:59.5), followed by Emma Eastman in 54th (20:16.3). Rylie Lusk placed 103rd (20:38.7), before a pair of freshmen rounded out the scoring in Selma Anderson (128th/20:49.8) and Jayden Harberts (153rd/21:00.9). Olivia Joly (21:18.8) and Madeline Heintz (21:42.1) were the sixth and seventh SU finishers, respectively.
'Cuse concludes the regular season next Friday at Cornell before ACC Championships get underway the following week.
