SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Behind another fourth quarter goal from Bo van Kempen, the No. 15 Syracuse University field hockey team completed the weekend sweep as the Orange ambushed No. 14 Princeton 2-1 Sunday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
Syracuse (8-3) bookended the game with goals in the third and 55th minute from Willemijn Boogert and van Kempen, respectively. Louise Pert was called to make one save in the game as the defensive unit in front of her blocked four attempts.
Sunday's win was the second-straight 2-1 win at Coyne Stadium this weekend for the Orange as Syracuse clipped the Cardinals of No. 16 Louisville Friday afternoon.
Princeton (6-4) tied the game in the 36th minute when Anna Faulstich slotted a pass in front to Beth Yeager. Tiger netminder Robyn Thompson made six saves in her 57 minutes and 11 seconds of work before she was pulled for the extra field player.

How it Happened
- Syracuse wasted little time getting on the board as Bo Madden dribbled along the baseline and slid over a pass for Boogert, who deflected the ball past Thompson to the back post for a 1-0 'Cuse lead in the third minute.
- Neither side recorded another offensive chance until the 12th minute on the Tigers' first corner of the day, a chance that was blocked down by a Syracuse defender.
- The Orange had chances late in the frame on back-to-back penalty corners but neither chance could find the net.
- It was much the same in the second quarter as the first opportunity of the period came from Princeton at the 20 minute mark, setting up Pert's lone save of the afternoon. Syracuse took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
- The visiting side scored at the 35:12 mark on a similar goal to the Orange tally, but from the opposite side of the goal. Faulstich centered a pass to Yeager for the equalizer and the only goal of the third period.
- A yellow card at the end of the third stanza and an early green card, both against Syracuse, meant the Orange opened the final quarter playing down two players. Syracuse successfully killed off both penalty cards before getting back to 11-aside field hockey.
- On its ninth and final penalty corner of the game, Syracuse broke through as Lottie Summers sent a ball in for Annabelle Vossenaar's stick stop, setting up the game-winner from van Kempen with just over five minutes to play.
- Princeton pulled Thompson with two minutes to play, but a yellow card against the Tigers just 30 seconds later evened the playing field as the orange hung on for the 2-1 top 20 win.
- Syracuse out-shot the Tigers 12-10, putting eight chances on goal. Princeton managed just two shots on goal, one that scored and one that was saved by Pert.
- Penalty corners were even at nine apiece , though Princeton held a slight 5-4 advantage in the second half, including three in the fourth period.
- Syracuse won its third game against a top 20 opponent of the season, leveling the team's record to 3-3 on the season against ranked opponents.
- Summers tallied her first points for the Orange with the game-winning penalty corner insertion. Vossenaar pulled into a tie for the team lead with five assists.
- Syracuse pulled even in the all-time series with Princeton, which now stands at 13-13-0. The Orange have reeled off three-straight against the Tigers, with all three wins coming in different cities (College Park, Maryland; Princeton, New Jersey; Syracuse, New York).
- The Orange conclude a pair of home weekends next week with another back-to-back ACC weekend.
- Syracuse hosts Stanford Friday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium for the first ACC meeting between programs. The Orange then welcome No. 20 California, another newcomer to the premier field hockey conference, on Sunday. Game times are set for 4 p.m. on Friday and noon on Sunday.
- ACC Network Extra will carry both games.
