Syracuse took care of business on its first road trip of the year, defeating #25 UNLV, 44-41, in overtime last Friday night. While technically the game was more than 2,000 miles away, there were many friendly faces in the crowd as a large contingent of 'Cuse fans made the trip west.
Â
"First of all, I want to start off by thanking just all the support that we had in Las Vegas this weekend," head coach Fran Brown said at his weekly press conference. "All the fans, the alums, it was really exciting and pleasant to be able to see. I think we had like probably half the crowd was our fans. So, it meant a lot to be able to see everyone there. And I want to make sure that I thank those guys personally, thank everybody that was there. Just thankful for all the support honestly because the cheering and being able to feel their energy and passion, I think that was something else that gave us that boost to be able to fight through at the end. So, I want to thank them."
Â
Those who made the trek to Las Vegas witnessed one of the most exciting victories in recent memory. Now, Syracuse will look to continue their. winning ways on the road. Saturday's trip to NC State will mark their second of three-straight road games, which is part of a stretch that features five-of-six games outside of the JMA Wireless Dome. The game will be at 8 p.m. on ACC Network.
The Wolfpack enter the contest with a 3-3 mark overall, 0-2 in conference play. Syracuse and NC State played annually from 2013, when the Orange joined the ACC, through 2022 when both were members of the league's Atlantic Division. After a one-year hiatus, the squads will meet again in a series that the Wolfpack lead, 13-3.
"We get an opportunity to play NC State," Brown said. "Coach Doeren, who I've gotten a chance to meet a few times, is a really good football coach. He's the second winningest coach in their school's history. They've had a lot of good coaches there, so that shows what he's been able to do."
The Orange will seek a 2-1 start to league play, which would tie for the second-best conference start since joining the ACC in 2013.
