
Field Hockey Climbs in Coaches Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Coming off a 2-0 ACC weekend, the Syracuse University field hockey team moved up one spot in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) released its poll Tuesday morning.
Syracuse (8-3, 2-2 ACC) moved up one spot and now occupies the 14th rank. The Orange picked up 385 points this week, 77 more points than last week (308). North Carolina continued its reign at the top with 1,011 points and 25 first-place votes, followed closely by Northwestern's 996 points and 27 first place votes. Virginia was third with 858 points with Ohio State (848) and Michigan (800) wrapping up the top five.
Including Syracuse, six ACC teams were among the top 20 this week including: No. 1 North Carolina, No. 3 Virginia, No. 10 Boston College, No. 11 Duke, No. 18 California.
Nine 2024 opponents appear in the week five top 20: No. 1 North Carolina, No. 3 Virginia, No. 4 Ohio State, No. 7 UConn, No. 10 Boston College, No. 11 Duke, No. 16 Princeton, No. 17 Penn State, No. 18 California. Syracuse is 3-3 against top 20 teams this week, with two of those setbacks against teams inside the top five this week.
Syracuse returns to J.S. Coyne Stadium this weekend for another set of home games, this time against two ACC newcomers. The Orange open the weekend on Friday afternoon for a 4 p.m. game on ACC Network Extra, followed by a top-20 clash against California on Sunday with a noon start, also on ACC Network Extra.
Friday's game is designated as Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day while Sunday is Coaches & Alumnae Day at Coyne Stadium.
