Syracuse offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon has been selected as a Broyles Award nominee.
The 65 nominees for this year's award, which is presented annually to the nation's top assistant coach, were selected from approximately 1,500 assistant coaches representing 131 FBS programs across the country.
Nixon has guided one of the nation's top passing attacks this season, led by quarterback Kyle McCord. McCord already owns every consequential single-season quarterback record in school history, including passing yards (3,946), completions (341), passing touchdowns (tied – 26) and total offense (3,902). McCord leads the nation in completions and passing yards.
Four 'Cuse receivers currently rank in the top-18 in program history for most catches in a single season, (Trebor Pena – 73, Jackson Meeks – 66, Oronde Gadsden II – 65, LeQuint Allen Jr. – 55). The Orange are also the only program in the nation with three-or-more players averaging 67.0-or-more yards per game through the air, as Gadsden, Meeks and Pena all are above that number.
The Orange rank in the top-20 nationally in most offensive categories, including passing offense (361.5 – 2nd), time of possession (34:08 – 2nd), first downs (284 – 3rd), fewest fumbles lost (2 – 2nd), third down conversion percentage (48.3 – 12th), fourth down conversion percentage (17th – 69.0). The Orange are scoring 31.7 points per game, which would finish as the eighth-highest scoring average in program history.
