The Syracuse football team is back on the road this weekend, heading to Boston College for their penultimate road game of the season. Here are five things to know about the matchup:
1. Old Northeast Rivals
Syracuse and BC will meet for the 58th time on Saturday. The Eagles are the Orange's fifth-most frequently played opponent in school history. It's a series that began in 1924 and was played annually from 1961-2004, when BC departed the BIG EAST for the ACC, and resumed in 2013 when Syracuse joined them in the conference (the two teams did meet once in 2010 as non-conference opponents).
It'll continue that way as well, with Boston College being named one of Syracuse's annual rivalry games in the new ACC scheduling model, which was released last year.
'Cuse enters the game having won three-straight meetings in Chestnut Hill – 2022, 2018 and 2016.
2. Bowling Again
The Orange secured bowl eligibility for the third-straight season in Saturday's thrilling comeback win over Virginia Tech. It's the longest bowl streak since the team played in five-straight from 1995-1999.
Fans can now complete the bowl interest survey to get ticket information for Orange bowl games, once their location is determined.
There are 53 FBS teams with a currently active possibility of having played in a bowl game in each of the last-three seasons (excludes San Jose State, Minnesota and Rice, who all reached a bowl game with a 5-7 record in either 2022 or 2023). Of those remaining 53 teams, seven already have six losses and eight are .500 or worse.
3. Allen in the Clutch
LeQuint Allen scored three touchdowns in Syracuse's win over Virginia Tech, including the game-tying and game-winning scores. It's the second time this season that Allen has scored the overtime touchdown to secure a Syracuse victory, also rushing for an OT score at UNLV.
He also set a pair of records in the win through the air. He became Syracuse's all-time receptions by a running back leader (97), passing Antwon Bailey's record of 92, which he set from 2008-11. He also tied the program's single-season running back receptions record (42) against the Hokies.
4. McCord Movin' Up
Kyle McCord threw two-more TD passes in the win over Virginia Tech, giving him 21 on the season. That puts him in fifth place on Syracuse's single-season record list. His next passing score will move him into a four-way tie for second with Don McPherson (1987), Donovan McNabb (1998) and Ryan Nassib's junior season (2011). Nassib holds the record with 26 in his senior season (2012).
He also moved into third on Syracuse's single-season passing yards ledger (2,761). He's 107 yards from tying Eric Dungey (2018) for second on the list. Nassib's 2012 season of 3,749 yards is the program record.
McCord currently leads Syracuse's yards-per-game record by 48 yards per game over Eric Dungey's 2016 campaign.
