Brown Named Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week

Syracuse head coach Fran Brown has been selected as The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week. Officials from the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl, Inc. made the announcement on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Brown led the Orange to their largest comeback in program history in aa 42-38 victory against No. 8 Miami last Saturday in the JMA Wireless Dome. Syracuse trailed, 21-0, but battled back and took its first lead of the day, 35-28, on a Devin Grant fumble return for a touchdown. The Hurricanes evened the scored at 35-35 on their ensuing drive before the Orange took the lead for good on LeQuint Allen's touchdown with 9:16 remaining. After a Miami field goal cut the lead to 42-38, Syracuse ran out the clock for its first win against a top-10 opponent since 2017.

The victory improved the Orange's overall record to 9-3 making, Brown just the second coach in program history to win nine games in his first year. He also guided Syracuse to three wins against three AP top-25 teams in one season for the first time since 1998.

The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week Presented by PNC Bank award honors a football coach who led his team to a significant victory during the previous week, while also embodying the award's three pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity.
